Overview
AFTRNOON TV is a specialized digital entertainment platform developed to stream nostalgic animated series, offer digital comics/graphic novels, and host web-based games in a unified hub. The platform features a 24/7 linear live channel schedule alongside on-demand content, allowing users to watch media, read interactive comics, and engage with retro pop culture. Built using modern web technologies, the system focuses on high-performance media delivery, continuous stream orchestration, and smooth user interactions across multi-format content.
The challenge
The main challenge was engineering a unified media and entertainment platform capable of handling three distinct content verticals—video streaming, comic reading, and interactive web games—within a single responsive interface. Implementing a seamless Progressive Web App (PWA) architecture was critical to provide an app-like experience, offline comic reading, push notifications for live streams, and home-screen installability without app store friction. Additionally, the platform needed to handle continuous low-latency 24/7 live guide programming alongside high-bitrate video and image delivery. Architecting a scalable backend to manage complex media assets, multi-format caching, secure user access, and low-latency asset delivery posed key technical hurdles.
